Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who represents Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on July 28, 2025, criticizing legislative actions by her colleagues and expressing concern over recent policy developments.
On July 28, 2025, Tlaib wrote, "Congress is threatening to sanction South Africa for their courageous leadership against the Israeli regime's genocide in Gaza. H.R.2633 is an extremist disgrace. Republicans and any Democrats who vote for this should forever keep Mandela's name out of their mouths." She was referring to proposed congressional sanctions targeting South Africa related to its stance on the conflict in Gaza.
Later that day, Tlaib addressed healthcare funding in another post: "Republicans passed Trump’s cruel budget, gutting Medicaid by $1.1 trillion. In Michigan alone, 450,000 people could lose health care. Kids. Seniors. People with disabilities. All so billionaires get richer. They should be ashamed."

Tlaib has served as a member of the U.S. Congress since 2019 after replacing Brenda Jones and previously represented constituents in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2009 to 2014. She was born in Detroit in 1976 and continues to reside there today. Her educational background includes a BA from Wayne State University (1998) and a JD from Thomas M. Cooley Law School (2004).
