Detroit City Football Club ended their USL Jägermeister Cup group stage campaign with a 3-0 victory over Westchester SC. The match, held on Saturday evening, saw Detroit City FC take control with goals from Ates Diouf, Devon Amoo-Mensah, and Matt Sheldon.

Ates Diouf converted a penalty right before halftime to give Detroit the lead. Second-half goals by Amoo-Mensah and Sheldon sealed the win. Head Coach Danny Dichio made one change to the starting lineup that previously drew against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, bringing in Rhys Williams for Alex Villanueva.

The first half was marked by several yellow cards. Rhys Williams received a yellow card in the 11th minute, followed by Westchester's Noah Powder five minutes later. Two more yellows were issued to Juan Palma and Ryan Williams for late tackles. In stoppage time of the first half, another yellow was given to Shane Wiedt and a second one to Noah Powder.

Detroit made two substitutions at halftime, introducing Matt Sheldon and Sebastián Guenzatti. Diouf nearly scored again in the 53rd minute but was denied by the goalkeeper. Westchester's keeper Andrew Hammersley was booked for time-wasting shortly after.

Abdoulaye Diop replaced Jay Chapman in the 62nd minute, marking his 100th appearance for Detroit City FC. Amoo-Mensah extended Detroit’s lead in the 71st minute with a header from a corner kick.

Haruki Yamazaki received a yellow card in the 81st minute for a late tackle. Despite further attempts by Diouf, it was Sheldon who added another goal in the 89th minute after receiving an assist from Guenzatti.

Despite this victory, Detroit City did not qualify for the knockout stages due to results elsewhere. Goalkeeper Carlos Saldaña secured his third clean sheet of the season across all competitions.

Detroit City will next face Rhode Island FC on August 6th and will return home to Keyworth Stadium on August 9th against Indy Eleven. Tickets are available at detcityfc.com/tickets.
