A defensive match between Detroit City Football Club and Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC ended in a 0-0 draw on Friday evening. The game, played in front of a sellout crowd of 7,235, saw limited goal-scoring opportunities with both teams registering only two shots on goal each.
Detroit City's Head Coach Danny Dichio made changes to the starting lineup from their previous game against Hartford Athletic. Carlos Saldaña started as goalkeeper, with Haruki Yamazaki, Shane Wiedt, Devon Amoo-Mensah, and Michael Bryant forming the defense. The midfield included Ryan Williams, Jay Chapman, Alex Villanueva, Jeciel Cedeño, and Ates Diof. Darren Smith was the lone striker.
In the first 20 minutes of play, Detroit City had a slight advantage in possession but struggled to create significant chances due to strong defensive efforts from both sides. In the 17th minute, Darren Smith created an opportunity for Ates Diouf whose shot was saved by Pittsburgh's goalkeeper.
As the first half progressed, Detroit City gained more possession but could not penetrate Pittsburgh's defense effectively. Jeciel Cedeño attempted a long-range shot in the 43rd minute which was safely handled by Pittsburgh's keeper.
The match remained physical with both teams committing 18 fouls in the first half without any yellow cards being issued initially. However, six minutes into the second half saw Pittsburgh’s Bradley Sample receive a yellow card for a late tackle.
Detroit City made substitutions in the 67th minute bringing on Abdoulaye Diop and Rhys Williams for Jeciel Cedeño and Haruki Yamazaki respectively. Despite holding most of the possession in the second half as well, Detroit City could not convert it into goals.
Pittsburgh defender Perrin Barnes received another yellow card in the 79th minute following a late tackle on Ates Diouf. The game concluded after four minutes of stoppage time without any goals scored.
This marks Carlos Saldaña's second clean sheet this season for Detroit City FC since their opening match against The Miami FC. The team will conclude their three-game homestand next Saturday against Westchester SC at Keyworth Stadium.
