DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings concluded their 2025 Development Camp last Thursday at Little Caesars Arena's BELFOR Training Center. The camp, which spanned four days, included on-ice sessions, off-ice workouts, and educational presentations for 31 players.
Assistant Director of Player Development Dan Cleary emphasized the benefits of the camp for young players. "We all know these kids are young and have to get stronger in different areas, but it’s also great for them," Cleary said. He noted that participants often return more comfortable after their first experience. "It’s great for these guys to get to know each other, see what it’s all about."
Goalie prospect Trey Augustine attended his third Development Camp this year. Drafted No. 41 overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, Augustine feels he has grown as a player since his first camp. "Obviously, you get more comfortable being around longer," Augustine remarked.
Prospects like forward Carter Bear and Eddie Genborg experienced their first taste of wearing the Winged Wheel on ice after being selected in this year's NHL Draft at No. 13 and No. 44 overall respectively. "For both of us, I think it’s a pretty cool experience just being around a pro environment," Bear shared.
Forward prospect Michael Brandsegg-Nygård also appreciated interacting with the Red Wings Player Development staff during the week. "It’s always fun to meet the people that work here," said Brandsegg-Nygård, drafted No. 15 overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.
Cleary highlighted the effort put into making the camp successful each year and its focus on guiding attendees towards future success. "The on-ice technical part, the skating is so important," Cleary stated.
He also mentioned Team Dietitian Lisa McDowell as a valuable resource for participants beyond the camp itself.
