The Detroit Red Wings have announced the signing of defenseman William Lagesson to a two-year contract extension. Lagesson, 29, played seven games with the Red Wings during the 2024-25 season, contributing one assist and recording four penalty minutes. He also participated in 23 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he achieved nine points and maintained a plus-13 rating.

Lagesson's previous experience includes time with both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks during the 2023-24 season. During that period, he accumulated four assists over 30 games with the Maple Leafs and registered 13 penalty minutes in ten games with the Ducks. His career began after being selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the fourth round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Throughout his professional journey, Lagesson has played for several teams, including stints in Sweden's HockeyAllsvenskan league and appearances at international competitions such as the IIHF World Junior Championships. His early development took place within Frölunda HC’s youth system before transitioning to North America.
