Since 2021, Detroit Drives Degrees and the Detroit College Access Network (DCAN) have collaborated to offer a summer bridge program for Detroit students preparing to enter college as freshmen each fall. The program has evolved over the years, and in Summer 2023, it was rebranded as Summer Navigating Education Transitions (Summer NET). This updated version provided graduating high school seniors from Detroit with the chance to engage in a summer bridge program hosted across six different college campuses.

The participating campuses included Henry Ford College, Michigan State University, Oakland Community College, Oakland University, University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, and Wayne State University. During Summer NET in 2023, students had the opportunity to hear from a keynote speaker focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. They participated in various activities such as lunch in dorms, academic workshops, and presentations covering areas like academic advising and financial aid. A total of 126 Detroit high school graduates took part in the program with 81% enrolling in college by Fall 2023.

In 2024, the program was restructured to provide a more focused experience within a shorter timeframe. Participants attended workshops, engaged in discussions with campus representatives, toured campuses, dined in dormitories, and connected with peers. A total of 134 students from the class of 2024 participated across eight college partners including Eastern Michigan University and University of Michigan – Dearborn.

In 2025, Detroit Promise high school graduates admitted to one of nine colleges will have the opportunity for summer orientation together at institutions like Central Michigan University on June 11 or June 12; Eastern Michigan University on June 13 or June 20; Grand Valley State University on May 20 or May 29; among others.
