During the 2025 Mackinac Policy Conference, "Live From Mackinac Brought to You by DTE Energy" hosted live discussions with Michigan legislators and Cabinet members from both parties on political and economic issues. Sponsored by DTE Energy, this three-day program was held at the Grand Hotel's Parlor, with Brad Williams of the Detroit Regional Chamber as emcee.

Richard Czuba of Glengariff Group discussed early topics from the 2026 election races with Samanda Shriber of MIRS. He emphasized bipartisanship over partisan conflicts: "[The Glengariff Group] did a poll for the Chamber that asked the question, 'Would you prefer a political leader who negotiates with the other side of the aisle and reaches deals, or would you prefer a political leader who sticks to their party’s positions and represents them aggressively?' Czuba explained, '70 to 19 want compromise.'"

State Budget Director Jen Flood addressed factors shaping Michigan's fiscal year budget amid "chaos in Washington, D.C." but assured that state economic tools remain effective. She noted, “In terms of the state budget, we’re well-positioned. We’ve got a record balance in the rainy-day fund."

Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks and Sen. Kevin Hertel updated on Democratic senators' initiatives and bipartisan efforts following a Democrat-majority trifecta. Brinks stated, “It’s incredibly important that we have a plan... We can’t predict the future... but we need to do as much as we can to make sure that we are there for our Michiganders.” Hertel added, “We can deal with... contention but also focus on issues where we need solutions.”

Rep. Jason Hoskins and Sen. Mark Huizenga discussed potential tax changes and business-friendly strategies like set-ready zones for development in Michigan.

Sens. Kevin Hertel and Mike Webber spoke about advancing Michigan's defense industry through bipartisan victories like securing an F-15EX fighter jet mission at Selfridge Air National Guard Base.

Rep. Joe Aragona discussed House Republicans’ regulatory reform strategy aimed at reducing burdens on housing development and his role in Michigan’s Cryptocurrency Caucus.

Sen. Jim Runestad highlighted concerns from Senate Republicans about investments in infrastructure while advocating for best practices.

DTE Energy’s Trevor Lauer joined Quentin L. Messer Jr., discussing Michigan's power usage needs for economic growth: “With some of the big loads that want to come to Michigan, having power ready is one of the most important factors," Lauer said.

Sens. John Damoose and Mallory McMorrow presented their joint 10-year economic development strategy focusing on state-specific advantages.

Reps.Joe Tate and Curt VanderWall concluded discussions on sustaining Michigan’s automotive industry amid tariff policy changes: "Ultimately... make sure we keep the auto industry strong in the state," VanderWall remarked.
