The Detroit Lions have announced the re-signing of linebacker Derrick Barnes, extending his contract through the 2027 season. The team did not disclose further terms of the contract.

Since joining the Lions, Barnes has participated in 51 games, starting in 26 of them. His record includes 194 tackles, with 114 being solo efforts. He has also made significant contributions with 12 tackles for loss, eight quarterback hits, four sacks, four pass defenses, and a forced fumble. In postseason play for Detroit, Barnes has started three games and is notably remembered for securing a game-sealing interception during the NFC Divisional Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2023.

Barnes entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick from Purdue University in 2021.
