Detroit City Football Club has announced the signing of forward Sebastián Guenzatti. The 33-year-old will join the team on a one-year contract, with an option for an additional year in 2026. Guenzatti is set to play in this weekend's opening match in Miami and will wear jersey number 23.
Hailing from Montevideo, Uruguay, Guenzatti spent the last two seasons with Indy Eleven. In 2024, he participated in 32 matches across all competitions, starting in 28 of them. He scored five goals during the season, placing him eighth on the USL Championship all-time goal-scoring list. One notable goal was against Nate Steinwasher at Keyworth Stadium in March. In 2023, he played in 35 games for Indy Eleven, starting 33 times and leading the team with 11 goals and playing a total of 2,944 minutes.
Guenzatti began his USL Championship career with Tampa Bay Rowdies, where he spent six seasons and set multiple club records. He became Tampa Bay's all-time leading scorer with 65 goals from 2017 to 2022 and led the team's scoring for four consecutive seasons from 2018 to 2021. During his time there, he also provided 19 assists over his participation in 160 matches. His contributions were significant to Tampa Bay’s achievements including Eastern Conference titles in both the USL Championship and Eastern Conference Championship game appearances.
Before joining the USL Championship league, Guenzatti played four seasons with New York Cosmos of NASL where he made a total of ninety appearances across all competitions scoring eleven goals and providing seven assists. He helped lead Cosmos to three NASL regular season titles as well as Soccer Bowl Championships during those years.
Earlier in his career back home in Uruguay, Guenzatti played for Huracán FC making nine appearances before moving up from Peñarol Under-19 side where he had been since the start of his professional journey.
