Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed HB 4002 and SB 8 on February 20, amending the Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) and minimum wage laws. The amendments respond to feedback from the business community, aiming to ease employer compliance with these regulations.

Though not all demands of the business sector were met, the legislative changes are expected to make adherence to the new acts more manageable for employers.

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) has released a FAQ list for employers detailing coverage under the act, employee eligibility for earned sick time, among other key points. These amendments took effect on February 21.
