Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, representing Michigan's 12th district, has been vocal on social media about her concerns regarding various actions and policies of the Trump Administration. In a series of tweets, she addresses issues related to deportation practices, federal funding decisions, and labor rights.
On February 4, 2025, Tlaib criticized the Trump Administration for its deportation plans. She stated that the administration "wants to deport U.S. citizens and immigrants alike to suffer in El Salvador's prison camps," which she claims are "famous for mass torture and human rights abuses." Tlaib urged resistance against what she describes as "unconstitutional cruelty." "The Trump Administration wants to deport U.S. citizens and immigrants alike to suffer in El Salvador's prison camps, famous for mass torture and human rights abuses. We cannot let this unconstitutional cruelty happen."
Later that day, Tlaib posted another tweet accusing the president of promoting ethnic cleansing while associating with a "genocidal war criminal." She also criticized the administration's financial priorities by stating that it is cutting off funds for working Americans while continuing financial support to the Israeli government. "This president is openly calling for ethnic cleansing while sitting next to a genocidal war criminal. He’s perfectly fine cutting off working Americans from federal funds while the funding to the Israeli government continues flowing."
On February 6, 2025, Tlaib reported on a protest at the U.S. Department of Labor against an unelected billionaire whom she accused of dismantling worker protections under the guise of efficiency improvements. She emphasized the need for continued advocacy in Congress, legal courts, and public demonstrations. "We protested at the U.S. Department of Labor, where an unelected billionaire is dismantling worker protections and pretending it's about efficiency. We have to fight in Congress, the courts, and in the streets."
