Rashida Tlaib, a U.S. Congresswoman representing Michigan's 12th district, has taken to social media to express her concerns on various issues affecting the nation. Through her tweets, Tlaib has highlighted matters ranging from utility shutoffs to federal agency operations.
On February 3, 2025, Tlaib criticized DTE Energy for conducting over 150,000 electricity shutoffs in the first nine months of 2024 while distributing $607 million in dividends to shareholders. She noted that just 3% of these dividend payments could have prevented all shutoffs and called for public power reform. "DTE did 150,000+ electricity shutoffs in just the first 9 months of 2024. During that same time period, DTE sent $607M in dividends to shareholders. Just 3% of those dividend payments could have prevented all 150,000 shutoffs. DTE's greed is disgusting. We need public power."
Later that day, Tlaib addressed the Trump Administration's actions regarding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), urging citizens not to remain silent as the administration moves to curtail its operations. The CFPB is recognized as the sole agency focused on safeguarding working individuals from financial exploitation. "The Trump Admin is shutting down the CFPB's work. The CFPB is the only agency whose mission is to protect working people from getting ripped off. Don't stay silent: speak up and make calls. We can't let this happen."
On February 4, she urged Democratic Senators to resist confirming Trump's cabinet nominees amid what she describes as illegal attempts by his administration to take control of federal agencies and disrupt governmental functions."Every Democratic Senator should be doing everything in their power to block Trump’s cabinet nominees. We cannot go on like business as usual while they illegally seize control of federal agencies and torch the government."
