During the 2025 Detroit Policy Conference, the Detroit Regional Chamber and General Motors announced the latest recipients of the NeighborHUB grant program. This year, nine small businesses and four nonprofits from Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park were selected to receive $15,000 each in grants. The initiative aims to support projects that address community needs.
The nonprofit awardees include At The Wells Ministries, Black Tech Saturdays, Live Coal, and Progressive Art Studio Collective. The small business recipients are ABC Mobile Vision, Beaverland Farms LLC, Detroit Balloon Store, Happy Bounce LLC, Just for Kids II, Mockery Zero Proof, Pink Flamingo To Go, The Coloring Museum LLC, and Next Chapter Books.
Devon O’Reilly from the Chamber expressed pride in the collaboration with GM. "I’m extremely proud of our collaboration with General Motors to empower residents, small businesses, and nonprofits to spark innovative change in their neighborhoods through accessible grant money," he said. Heidi Magyar from GM also commented on the program's impact: “For the past seven years, the NeighborHUB program has inspired local nonprofits and small businesses to think big and enact change in their communities.”
The NeighborHUB program supports community foundations by providing additional resources beyond downtown areas. BUILD Institute will offer workshops and mentorship to grantees this year. Notably, 79% of this year's grantees are minority-owned or led.
Since its inception, 107 organizations have benefited from nearly $2.55 million in funding through NeighborHUB. Recipients are chosen based on proposals aimed at enhancing neighborhood spaces through collaboration. In 2022 a focus on small businesses was introduced to highlight their role in community revitalization.
The program is an annual effort between the Chamber and GM designed to empower residents in specific neighborhoods through innovative programming. Over 500 applications were submitted this cycle for a competitive selection process led by an advisory committee comprising various stakeholders.
