Rashida Tlaib commemorates MLK Day and addresses constitutional issues

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, currently serving Michigan’s 12th district in the U.S. Congress, has been active on social media, sharing her thoughts and experiences on various subjects. On January 20, 2025, she posted about participating in Martin Luther King Jr. Day events across her district. The following day, she commented on constitutional matters regarding birthright citizenship and recognized a local leader's retirement.

On January 20, 2025, Tlaib expressed her participation in Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebrations within her constituency. She shared her experiences of witnessing community gatherings from Southfield to Detroit to honor Dr. King's legacy and ongoing fight for justice: "I had the honor of commemorating Martin Luther King Jr. Day at events across #12thDistrictStrong..."

The next day, on January 21, Tlaib addressed constitutional issues related to birthright citizenship by asserting that the president lacks the authority to alter it through an executive order: "The 14th Amendment was ratified 157 years ago... The president does not have the authority to end birthright citizenship."

Later that day, she acknowledged Al Haidous's contributions as Wayne’s first Arab American mayor and county commissioner and extended best wishes for his retirement: "From Wayne’s first Arab American mayor to county commissioner... Join me in wishing him a joyful retirement."
