Small business sales rise in December; North Dakota leads growth

Month-over-month sales at small businesses in December increased by 2.0% from November, while year-over-year sales rose by 4.9% compared to December 2023. General merchandise retailers experienced a strong performance with a 3.1% increase from November and a significant 14.4% rise compared to December 2023.

However, restaurant sales saw a decline, dropping by 1.6% compared to November and falling by 3.4% when compared to December 2023.

North Dakota emerged as the leading state for month-over-month sales with a growth of 7.7%, alongside steady year-over-year growth of 9.6%.
