The Detroit Red Wings are preparing to face the Philadelphia Flyers twice within six days, starting with a game at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night. The match is scheduled for 7 p.m., with coverage available on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network.
Detroit recently ended a five-game winless streak by defeating the Buffalo Sabres 6-5 in a shootout. Contributions came from various players, including Andrew Copp, Moritz Seider, Lucas Raymond, captain Dylan Larkin, and J.T. Compher, each scoring two points. Goaltender prospect Sebastian Cossa made his NHL debut with 12 saves.
Head coach Derek Lalonde commented on the recent game: “It’s just ironic that the last game we get our full two points was probably our sloppiest defensively,” he said. He noted that despite defensive issues, the team managed to generate offense and highlighted their strong expected goals metrics over recent games.
Lalonde has not yet announced which goaltender will start against the Flyers. Both Cam Talbot and Ville Husso will participate in warmups before a decision is made. Talbot has been out since December 1 due to a lower-body injury, while Husso played only one period against Buffalo. Alex Lyon traveled with the team but is unlikely to be available until next Wednesday.
Philadelphia recently broke their three-game winless streak by beating Columbus Blue Jackets 5-3. Travis Konecny leads their scoring charts this season with rookie Matvei Michkov close behind. Michkov is currently enjoying a five-game point streak and is an early contender for the Calder Memorial Trophy.
The Flyers' goalies Samuel Ersson, Ivan Fedotov, and Aleksei Kolosov have collectively posted a 3.21 goals-against average this season.
Lucas Raymond expressed respect for Philadelphia's playing style: “They’re really hard-working and tough to play against,” he said. “I think if we play our game, we’ll be successful.”
