Detroit City Football Club has announced the acquisition of goalkeeper Carlos Herrera, signing him to a two-year guaranteed contract. Herrera, originally from San Leandro, California, comes to DCFC following two seasons with Monterey Bay FC in the Western Conference.

Herrera's collegiate career took place at Texas A&M International during 2017 and 2018. He finished his college years with a record of 16-10-5, including ten clean sheets. His performance peaked in 2017 with an impressive save percentage of 84.1%.

Post-college, Herrera joined Laredo Heat SC in the NPSL for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. During his tenure there, he played a crucial role in leading the team to a first-place finish in the NPSL Lone Star Conference and advancing to the Regional Semifinals in 2018. In the 2019 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, he made two starts and recorded one clean sheet.

Herrera signed his first professional contract with Monterey Bay for the 2022 season. His debut came during the club’s inaugural home opener where he achieved his first professional clean sheet and set a milestone for Monterey Bay by securing their first-ever clean sheet as well. That season saw him play seven games.

In 2023, Herrera started in 18 matches for Monterey Bay FC, achieving an overall record of eight wins, seven losses, and three draws while maintaining two clean sheets. His save percentage that year increased significantly from its previous rate.

The following year, Herrera started nine matches during which he maintained three clean sheets; notably securing back-to-back shutouts in September when Detroit City faced Monterrey. He was instrumental as starting goalkeeper when Detroit City won against Monterrey with a score of 2-0. The season concluded as his best yet professionally with an outstanding save percentage of 81.4%.
