The Detroit Red Wings faced a narrow defeat against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night, losing 2-1 at the Canadian Tire Centre. Despite the loss, the Red Wings took solace in their penalty kill performance, which successfully thwarted all five of Ottawa's power-play opportunities.

Detroit captain Dylan Larkin acknowledged the team's strong penalty kill and noted, "Huss was good again. That's a tough one. I think we played well enough to get two points, and we got zero." Head coach Derek Lalonde echoed Larkin's sentiments, describing the game as a missed opportunity: "We're going to look back, we outchanced them 5-on-5."

The game began with Ottawa taking an early lead when Josh Norris scored at 12:14 of the first period after capitalizing on his own rebound. Although Drake Batherson appeared to extend Ottawa's lead in the second period with a power-play goal, it was overturned following a successful offside challenge by Detroit.

Detroit managed to level the score in the third period when Alex DeBrincat netted his 11th goal of the season during a 4-on-3 power play. However, Norris secured victory for Ottawa with just 43 seconds remaining by scoring his second goal of the night.

Ville Husso made 30 saves for Detroit while Linus Ullmark stopped 19 shots for Ottawa. Reflecting on their performance, DeBrincat commented on Detroit's recent power play efforts: "We're battling to get pucks back...I think it's been good, can definitely be better."

Despite disappointment over losing late in regulation time, Larkin emphasized resilience: "We have to find it from within and show what we're capable of." The Red Wings are set to host Colorado Avalanche next at Little Caesars Arena.

Lalonde praised Detroit's penalty kill structure against Ottawa: "Tonight was the night we had good structure on it." Meanwhile, Larkin expressed determination to move past Thursday's loss: "We've been in this position before. I don't think there's anyone coming in to save the day."

DeBrincat also stressed learning from both positives and negatives as they prepare for upcoming games: "Can't get too down...we got to find a way to win these tight games."
