Detroit City Football Club has announced the acquisition of defender Shane Wiedt, who has signed a two-year contract with the team. Wiedt, previously with Sacramento Republic FC in the Western Conference, is joining Detroit after completing two seasons with his former club.

Wiedt hails from Akron, Ohio, and began his soccer journey at the University of Akron in 2014. During his college career, he played 1,793 minutes across 32 matches for the Zips and contributed to three MAC Tournament championships and a College Cup appearance in 2017. He later transferred to the University of Pittsburgh for his final year of collegiate play.

The defender started his USL Championship career in 2019 with Loudoun United. In that debut season, Wiedt played seven matches and earned an assist against New York Red Bulls II. He was re-signed by Loudoun United for the following season where he scored his first professional goal against Hartford Athletic.

In April 2021, after not receiving a contract extension from Loudoun United, Wiedt joined Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC. He played 32 games that season and helped secure eleven clean sheets for the team. The following year he continued to deliver strong performances by starting in most matches and aiding ten clean sheets.

After leaving Pittsburgh Riverhounds post-2022 season, Wiedt moved to Sacramento Republic FC where he excelled during the 2023 season by starting almost every match and leading interceptions for his team. However, a broken clavicle limited him to just 16 appearances in 2024.
