The Detroit Red Wings have announced the recall of defenseman William Lagesson from the Grand Rapids Griffins, their American Hockey League affiliate. Concurrently, the team has placed right wing Patrick Kane on injured reserve, effective retroactively to November 23.
Lagesson, aged 28, began the 2024-25 season with the Griffins, accumulating five points and a plus-nine rating over 13 games. The Swedish defenseman previously played for both the Toronto Maple Leafs and Anaheim Ducks during the 2023-24 season. He recorded four assists in 30 games with Toronto and logged penalty minutes in his subsequent ten-game stint with Anaheim.
Originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 2014, Lagesson has played for multiple NHL teams since his debut in the league. His career statistics include stints with teams such as Montréal Canadiens and Toronto Marlies in addition to international experience representing Sweden at various junior championships.
Prior to joining professional ranks, Lagesson developed his skills at Frölunda HC's system before moving to North America where he played collegiate hockey at the University of Massachusetts.
