A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Wayne County Election Division on October 30, 2024. The request was made by us at Detroit City Wire, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically sought records pertaining to pre-election testing of voting machines used in the county's elections. We requested these records in an electronic format, preferably as PDF files.
The information we are seeking includes the date of the test, the manufacturer of the machine, the model number of the machine, and whether the machine passed or failed its pre-election test. This data is crucial for our ongoing reporting on election integrity and transparency in Michigan.
As members of the media, we believe access to public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Wayne County Election Division and will continue our efforts to ensure that election processes are transparent and accountable.
