The Michigan State Primary Election is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, 2024. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., with in-person voting available across all jurisdictions.
Voters can register at their city or township clerk’s office until 8 p.m. on Election Day. The Michigan Voter Information Center provides resources to verify registration status, locate polling places, and find local clerk offices.
Voter registration cards are not required at the polls as long as voters are at the correct location where their names appear on the registration list. Replacement cards can be obtained through local clerks or by checking online.
Sample ballots can be viewed online by searching based on county, jurisdiction, and precinct or by looking up individual voter information.
Identification is requested when checking in to vote. Acceptable forms of ID include a Michigan driver’s license or state ID (even if expired), IDs from other states, government-issued photo IDs, U.S. passports, military photo IDs, educational institution photo IDs, and tribal photo IDs. Voters without ID can still vote after signing a form explaining the absence of an ID.
Election-related clothing and materials are prohibited within polling places and within 100 feet of entrances. Voters wearing such items will be asked to cover or remove them.
Absentee ballots must be delivered to city or township clerks by 8 p.m. on Election Day either in person or via drop box. Ballot tracking is available online for those who have mailed their ballots.
In case of emergencies preventing voters from reaching the polls on Election Day, emergency absentee ballots can be requested after the regular absentee ballot deadline but before 4 p.m. on Election Day.
Voters wishing to change their absentee votes must submit a written request to spoil their ballot by 5 p.m. on the second Friday before the election if it has been returned to the clerk's office; otherwise, they may spoil it in person until 4 p.m. the Monday prior to Election Day.
