The City of Detroit Parks & Recreation Division announces registration is officially open for Soccer in the D, Detroit’s youth soccer league for ages 3-14. The goal of the Detroit youth soccer league is to diversify the sport while making it accessible by allowing families to register for just $35 for the entire season.

Soccer in the D will allow youth to learn and develop fundamental soccer skills while understanding the importance of community, teamwork, and friendship and involving the entire family.

"Soccer in the D has created "soccer moms and soccer families" in the city of Detroit,” said Shay Lewis, Manager of Athletics, Detroit Parks & Recreation. "It's great to see grandma, uncle, mom & dad on the sidelines of our soccer fields cheering on the kids. That's what sports do; it brings families and communities together."

With nearly 1300 kids playing in the spring soccer league at three different City parks, Soccer in the D Program is Detroit's largest recreational soccer league. In addition, it is the most extensive sports program Detroit Parks and Recreation Athletics offers.

“It’s important for us to ensure the youth in our community are exposed to an array of sports,” said Ricardo Marble, Assistant Director of Detroit Parks & Recreation. “Soccer In the D allows families to take part in what is considered a traditionally expensive sport for an affordable cost, without having to leave their city. It’s truly a win for the entire family.”

In addition, as Detroit Parks and Recreation continues investing in multi-sport fields at its parks, participating in the league will encourage the community to enjoy the City's beautiful parks. The 2023 spring season games will occur at O'Hair Park, Rouge Park, and Lasky Park.

"It takes a village to make a difference with our youth, and our Soccer in The D Program builds Character," Lewis said. "We always need adults to volunteer to help to continue to offer a quality soccer program and provide a great playing experience for the kids."

The 2023 Detroit soccer league season is April 22 – June 11, 2023. Registration closes March 24 or until spots are filled. The $35 registration fee includes players' uniforms and shin guards.
