Downriver History 101

Welcome to Downriver History 101.

Ecorse Township was organized on April 12, 1827. 100yrs later the Village of Allen Park incorporated in 1927. A short 30yrs later the village re-incorporated as the City of Allen Park in 1957.

Today, the former Ecorse township includes the cities of Melvindale, Allen Park, Lincoln Park, River Rouge, Ecorse, Southgate, Wyandotte, and the Boynton and Oakwood Heights neighborhoods of Detroit.
