Fall is upon us, so it is time for the GPF Public Safety Department's annual hose testing.
During fire hose testing, all air is removed from the hose. The hose is then filled with water and checked for efficiency, durability, and warping. The hose is inspected for bulges, sweating at couplings, hose movement in coupling tailpieces, and other visible deformities.
Hose failure can result in catastrophic injury to responders, bystanders, or both. Routine testing of fire hoses, couplings, appliances, and nozzles is necessary to provide a reasonable level of safety for users and to increase the likelihood the equipment will perform as designed.
