WAYNE COUNTY TAX ASSESSOR: Detroit Man Charged in Hit-and-Run of Pedestrian

Tulsa

Wayne County Tax Assessor issued the following announcement.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Daniel Delatorre, 32, (DOB: 07/10/1988), of Detroit, in connection with the hit-and-run of a 45-year-old male pedestrian from Burien, Washington.

On October 5, 2020 at approximately 4:08 a.m., Detroit police officers were dispatched to a vehicle/pedestrian accident that occurred in the 7400 block of McGraw Street, near Proctor Street, in Detroit. Upon arrival, the officers found the victim lying in the road. EMS arrived at the location and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

It is alleged that an altercation between a group of three men and two other men occurred in a nearby club. The altercation escalated, and the parties involved were told to leave the club. It is further alleged that, upon seeing the victim standing close to the curb on McGraw Street, the defendant drove his vehicle and intentionally struck the victim before he fled the scene in his vehicle. Investigation by the Detroit Police Department led to the apprehension of the defendant.

Delatorre has been charged with Assault With Intent to Murder, Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, Failure to Stop at the Scene of a Serious Injury Crash and Felonious Assault.* He was arraigned on October 7, 2020 before 36th District Court Magistrate Jeffrey Kleparek. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for October 19, 2020 at 8:30 a.m.; the Preliminary Examination is scheduled for October 26, 2020 at 9:00 a.m. Both hearings are before Judge Kenyetta Stanford Jones in 26th District Court. The defendant received a $175,000 cash/surety bond. Please contact the Detroit Police Department for a photograph of the defendant.

WCPO has recently been informed that the victim succumbed to his injuries. The case is currently being reviewed by our Homicide Unit. An update will be issued when a charging decision is made.
