City of Detroit issued the following announcement.
The second Black Business Crawl will take place across Detroit this Saturday, February 22. The crawl is part of a series of events put on by the Civil Rights, Inclusion and Opportunity Department (CRIO) to celebrate Black History Month. The event aims to promote and support black businesses in neighborhoods across the city.
The crawl is an all-day affair with most businesses offering special promotions throughout the day. Each business’s participation is based on their own individual Saturday hours and crawl attendees are encouraged to frequent locations as they wish.
“The Civil Rights, Inclusion and Opportunity Department is proud to promote our local business owners with events like this,” said Charity Dean, CRIO Director. “Black business owners face many challenges, which makes it imperative that we invest in their success. These businesses are so important to our neighborhoods and we’re committed to helping them thrive. By supporting each other, we are supporting growth throughout Detroit.”
A wide variety of businesses are participating in the event. Participating businesses include clothing retail stores, dining stops, beauty shops, art galleries, health and wellness services and other specialty shops. Participants are encouraged to take pictures and post them on their social media with the hashtag #shopblackdetroit
The Black Business Crawl was first started by the City of Detroit’s CRIO department and the Detroit Business Opportunity program. The goal is to highlight black-owned businesses in Detroit and to show the importance of local support for neighborhood businesses. Now in its second installment, CRIO says more Black Business Crawls can be expected in the future.
A full list of participating businesses, hours and more details about the event can be found in the Black Business Crawl Guide.
