Ford Motor Co. is adding 3,000 manufacturing jobs at two factories in the Detroit area. Additionally, Ford is investing $1.45 billion to build new pickup trucks at the facilities, which also includes SUVs and electric vehicles.

Ford said last month that about $750 million of the investment money will go to the manufacturing plant the suburb of Wayne, which is located on the outskirts of metro Detroit. This will add 2,700 jobs in the plant within the next three years. Ford also says that $700 million go to the truck factory in Dearborn. This venture will add 300 new jobs to the Dearborn plant.

According to reports, massive hiring efforts will begin this year. The large investment comes amid the U.S. vehicle sales peak. Reports suggest that there is a high demand for 17 million vehicles per year.

However, experts say that Ford needs to make the investment in new products in an effort to increase its market share and prepare for a shift to new propulsion and autonomous vehicle technologies.
