Wayne County Secures Contract to Address Staffing Shortage at Juvenile Detention Facility
Orientation and Training to Begin This Week
DETROIT, MI – The Wayne County Juvenile Detention welcomes a new training class of Juvenile Detention Specialists to its ranks. Newcomers are contracted through New Image Building Services under the New Image Protective Services branch. Approximately 15 new contract staffers will begin training today, which includes one week of classroom instructional training.
The Juvenile Detention Specialists (JDS) will join the facility for a six-month temporary contractual employment period. This initiative is intended to reduce mandated overtime for county JDS staff and help Wayne County reach historical staffing levels for its Juvenile Detention Facility. Wayne County is also using this opportunity to provide a pipeline to a long-term career in county government.
The temporary contractual JDS staff will work alongside Wayne County JDS staff and will have the same roles and responsibilities as the current Juvenile Detention Specialists employed by Wayne County.
“The safety of our youth and staff remains a high priority. The addition of these temporary Juvenile Detention Specialists will help address the ongoing staffing shortages as we work to better serve and protect our youth and staff,” said Wayne County Executive, Warren C. Evans.
In six months, there will be a review to measure the success of the contract and extend offers to potential full-time hires.
