Tatenda Mkuruva has re-signed with Detroit City FC for the 2026 campaign, the club announced on Apr. 6. The agreement brings back the experienced goalkeeper for his second season in Rouge and Gold.
Mkuruva, who is 30 years old, has played at top levels in South Africa and Zambia. He previously appeared for Cape Town City FC in the Premier Soccer League and Buildcon FC in the Zambian Premier League after starting his professional career with Dynamos in Harare. While at Dynamos, he contributed to several league titles and domestic trophies, earning Rookie of the Year and Soccer Star of the Year honors in 2015.
Since moving to the United States in 2019, Mkuruva became a regular starter for Michigan Stars FC. He served as club captain and helped lead them to a National Independent Soccer Association League Championship title in 2022 and a runner-up finish in 2023. During his time with Michigan Stars, he faced Detroit City FC multiple times and became familiar with its supporters.
