Detroit City Football Club has confirmed the signing of Zimbabwean goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva. The agreement is a two-year deal, with the 2025 season guaranteed and an option for 2026. Mkuruva will wear jersey number 16 for Le Rouge this season, having already been training with the team since pre-season.

Mkuruva has been residing in the metro-Detroit area since joining the Michigan Stars in September 2019, where he initially participated in the inaugural NPSL Members Cup campaign. During his first season with the Stars, he faced Detroit City FC twice. He quickly established himself as a key player for Michigan Stars, maintaining his position as their primary goalkeeper from 2019 to 2024 and eventually becoming club captain.

During his tenure with the Stars, Mkuruva contributed to their success by being part of both the victorious 2022 NISA League Championship team and the runner-up squad in 2023.

The 29-year-old has also represented Zimbabwe at various levels including U17, U20, and U23 before making his senior debut in 2016. Notably, he played for Zimbabwe at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017 where one of their highlights was a draw against Algeria, with Mkuruva starting that match.

Prior to his move to join Michigan Stars in the United States, Mkuruva played for Buildcon in Zambia (20 appearances) and Cape Town City in South Africa (12 appearances). His professional career began at Dynamos within Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League after progressing through their youth ranks from 2008-2012.
