Detroit City FC is preparing to host Louisville City following a 1-0 defeat to Lexington SC. In their previous match, Detroit controlled the first half but struggled to convert chances into shots on target. After substitutions in the second half, Forster Ajago scored for Lexington in the 74th minute, resulting in a loss for Detroit.

This result, combined with wins from other teams in the conference, has moved Detroit City down to seventh place in the Eastern Conference standings with 32 points. Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and Hartford Athletic are just ahead with 34 and 35 points respectively. With five matches left in the season, Detroit remains above the playoff cut line; Rhode Island FC currently holds eighth place with 30 points.

Louisville City enters this fixture having already secured a spot in the 2025 USL Championship playoffs. The team leads the conference with 60 points and clinched their playoff berth on August 30th. While they cannot surpass the single-season USL Championship points record, Louisville is still positioned to win a second consecutive USL Supporters Shield.

In their last outing, Louisville City defeated Las Vegas Lights FC 3-1. Sam Gleadle scored early for Louisville before Las Vegas was reduced to ten men after Thomas McNamara received a red card in the 31st minute. Although Las Vegas equalized before halftime, Louisville took control after Adrien Pérez put them ahead in the 67th minute and Josh Jones added another goal late in the match. This victory marked Head Coach Danny Cruz's 100th win in the USL Championship, making him the fastest coach to reach that milestone at just 169 matches.
