Detroit Red Wings forward Marco Kasper has been honored as the 2024-25 Red Wings Rookie of the Year by Detroit Sports Media (DSM).
Kasper, 21, participated in 77 games during the season and was among the NHL's rookie leaders with 19 goals, ranking fourth, and achieved notable standings in other categories such as assists, points, penalty minutes, game-winning goals, overtime goals, and shots. His performance marked the highest point total by a Red Wings rookie since Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider both surpassed the 50-point mark in the 2021-22 season. Kasper made his NHL debut with an assist on October 19 against Nashville and scored his first goal on November 15 at Anaheim. He also secured his first overtime goal on April 11 at Tampa Bay.
Selected eighth overall by the Red Wings in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, Kasper began the 2024-25 season with two appearances for the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins before moving up to play for Detroit. The Austrian native spent all of the previous season with Grand Rapids where he recorded a strong performance.
The DSM Red Wings Rookie of the Year Award has been presented since the 1948-49 NHL season. Past winners include Dylan Larkin and four Calder Memorial Trophy recipients: Seider, Roger Crozier, Glenn Hall, and Terry Sawchuk.
