Phoenix took the lead before halftime when Collin Smith headed home a cross in the 42nd minute. Despite several attempts, Detroit failed to score early in the second half, bringing in substitutes Darren Smith and Ben Morris in their quest for goals.
Hope Avayevu's goal extended Phoenix's lead to 2-0 right after Detroit's substitution. However, Detroit retaliated with Rhys Williams assisting Smith in the 87th and 89th minutes. Smith's two goals marked his first multi-goal game for Detroit City.
Cedeño then capitalized on a turnover shortly after the restart, netting the winning goal for Detroit from the edge of the box. Despite entering stoppage time with a deficit, Detroit ultimately celebrated a thrilling victory.
Following this win, Detroit City will head back to Keyworth Stadium to face Westchester SC in the third round of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
