Detroit City FC has revealed its forthcoming International Friendly match featuring Club Santos Laguna. The Mexican football club, known for its success in Liga MX, will visit Keyworth Stadium on June 25 at 7 p.m. ET. This encounter marks the tenth time Detroit City FC has hosted an international club, following its match against Pumas UNAM from Liga MX in 2024.

The event is backed by Ideal Group Detroit, adding a local dimension to the international competition.

Santos Laguna, with a broad and dedicated fanbase of over 4 million followers on social media, was founded in 1983 as Club Santos IMSS Laguna by the Mexican Social Security Institute of Durango. It adopted its current name, Santos Laguna, in 1984. The club boasts a successful history in Mexican football, with six Liga MX titles to its name, the latest being in 2018. In 2021, Santos Laguna was the runner-up in Liga MX, losing to Cruz Azul. The team has also reached the finals of the CONCACAF Champions League twice.

The team plays its home games at Estadio Corona, a stadium with a 30,050 capacity in Torreón, Coahuila. Their partnership with Celtic from the Scottish Premiership, announced in December 2010, is a testament to their international outreach.

Detroit City FC has a history of hosting international teams. The club's first International Friendly was in 2016 against FC United of Manchester. Subsequent matches included encounters with Glentoran FC, Venezia FC, FC St. Pauli, Club Necaxa, Frosinone Calcio, FC Juárez, Club Atlas, and Pumas UNAM. Santos Laguna represents the fifth Liga MX team to compete against Detroit City FC.
