The Detroit Red Wings have announced a trade involving forward Yanni Gourde and defenseman Kyle Aucoin. The Red Wings acquired Gourde, with 50 percent of his salary retained, from the Seattle Kraken in exchange for Aucoin. Shortly after, they traded Gourde to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a conditional fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft.
As part of this deal, Detroit will retain 50 percent of the remaining obligations related to Gourde's contract, which translates to 25 percent of the contract’s remaining value. Detroit is set to receive either Tampa Bay's or Edmonton's fourth-round pick in the upcoming draft, depending on which is earlier.
The Red Wings currently hold nine picks for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. This includes their own picks in the first three rounds and an additional third-round pick from the New York Rangers. Following this trade, they also have a fourth-round pick from Tampa Bay and possess their own selections in the fifth through seventh rounds, plus an extra seventh-round choice from the St. Louis Blues.
