The Detroit Red Wings showcased their resilience in a 3-2 victory against the Minnesota Wild at Xcel Energy Center. Simon Edvinsson led the charge with his first career NHL multi-goal game, scoring twice to help the team recover from an early two-goal deficit.

“Huge,” Edvinsson remarked on the win, which marked Detroit's fourth multi-goal comeback of the season. Head coach Todd McLellan praised his team's perseverance and ability to adapt to a tight-checking game. "Going down two wasn’t part of the game plan," McLellan stated, "but we came out... talking about actually playing fairly well and don't get discouraged."

Minnesota initially took the lead with goals from Marco Rossi and Jakub Lauko in the first period. Despite trailing 2-0, Detroit's goalie Cam Talbot remained optimistic, citing positive aspects of their play. "I give our guys a ton of credit – mental fortitude – and we were able to come back there," Talbot said.

Detroit equalized in the second period with goals from Vladimir Tarasenko and Edvinsson. Edvinsson secured the win in the third period with another goal assisted by Albert Johansson and Elmer Soderblom.

McLellan commended Edvinsson’s performance: “He’s obviously a very, very talented player.” The victory gives Detroit five points out of six since returning from a break. Albert Johansson noted, “We know every game is huge.”

Next, Detroit will face off against Columbus Blue Jackets at Little Caesars Arena before meeting again for the 2025 NHL Stadium Series at Ohio Stadium.

Quotes postgame reflected satisfaction and confidence among players and coaches. McLellan discussed pairing Johansson with Edvinsson due to familiarity from their time together in Grand Rapids. Talbot acknowledged Tuesday’s challenging environment but praised his team for their determination: “It could have been easy to fold out here after that, but we battled back.”

Edvinsson expressed enjoyment playing alongside Johansson: “It’s fun to talk Swedish." Meanwhile, Johansson emphasized gaining confidence through late-game situations: “You want to play those big minutes... Happy that we got the win tonight.”
