Detroit City Football Club has confirmed the return of David Dwaihy as head coach for their USL W League team in the 2025 season. This marks his third year leading the team, following a successful 2024 season where they achieved a record of 12-2-1 and reached the national semifinal.
In 2024, Detroit City FC's USL W League side enjoyed its best performance to date, remaining unbeaten for 14 matches and winning the Central Conference title by defeating Indy Eleven. The team's only loss came against Colorado Storm FC in the national semifinal.
Dwaihy is one of the five founders of Detroit City FC and has been a significant figure in its development since it was established in 2012. Besides his role as co-owner, he played competitively for six years, earning multiple Man of the Match awards. He made 13 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists.
Beyond playing, Dwaihy has contributed to matchday broadcasts, offering insights into the game and representing both the club and Detroit positively. Recently, he appeared on MASL W League indoor broadcasts.
His initial season as head coach in 2023 saw Detroit City finish third in the Great Lakes Division with a record of 5-3-4.
Outside of Detroit City FC, Dwaihy has coached boys’ and girls’ teams at University Liggett School since 2002. He became head coach for the girls' team in 2009 and for the boys' team in 2016. He also teaches math at University Liggett School.
