Lucas Raymond, a forward for the Detroit Red Wings, is representing Sweden at the 2025 4 Nations Face-Off and is finding the experience both challenging and rewarding. "The competitiveness has been really high in all of the games, but it’s been really fun and a great atmosphere," Raymond shared with DetroitRedWings.com following Sweden's morning skate at Agganis Arena.
Raymond is excelling offensively in the tournament, leading his team with three assists and maintaining a plus-3 rating over two games. He expressed confidence in his performance both internationally and for his upcoming season back home. "I feel good body-wise and mind-wise," he said. "I feel like I’m in a good spot."
Swedish head coach Sam Hallam praised Raymond's development over the years, noting an increase in confidence that enhances his gameplay. “This is the third tournament that I’ve coached [Raymond]...he was a great player two years ago and was even better last year,” Hallam stated. “Just seeing him now, I think his confidence level overall...he knows he’s among that group of players that can step on the ice and make good plays against the best players in the world.”
The quick nature of the 4 Nations Face-Off requires rapid team chemistry building, something Raymond finds manageable due to existing Swedish connections. “There are obviously guys who you haven’t played with before, so it’s about getting used to each other and the system,” he explained.
A notable matchup awaits as Sweden faces off against the United States at TD Garden. This game will pit Raymond against his current Red Wings linemate Dylan Larkin. "I’m very excited," said Raymond regarding playing against Larkin. "It’ll be a lot of fun."
Raymond also acknowledged learning from Larkin during their time together in Detroit, emphasizing Larkin's influence both on and off the ice: “Just being around him...I see how he takes care of himself, which is impressive."
