Michigan State University Spartans secured a decisive 6-1 victory over the University of Michigan Wolverines in the annual "Duel in the D" hockey game held at Little Caesars Arena. This win marks their second consecutive year claiming the "Iron D" Trophy. The game, attended by 19,515 spectators, showcased Michigan State's strong performance with a three-goal third period and an impeccable penalty kill.

The Spartans were led by multi-point contributions from Joey Larson, Isaac Howard, Shane Vansaghi, Nicklas Andrews, and Gavin O’Connell. Head coach Adam Nightingale praised the support of the Red Wings organization and the Ilitch family for facilitating such events at their venue. He reflected on his personal experiences with college hockey and emphasized the significance of Saturday night's match for his team.

Trey Augustine, a goalie prospect for the Red Wings, made 17 saves for Michigan State. Meanwhile, Cameron Korpi was kept busy with 34 saves for Michigan. Wolverines head coach Brandon Naurato acknowledged the impact of special teams on the game's outcome.

Coach Nightingale expressed satisfaction with his team's effort against a formidable opponent and highlighted their improved play compared to their previous encounter. Vansaghi shared his excitement about scoring during a power play early in the game. O’Connell discussed how they learned from Friday's loss to deliver a strong performance.

Naurato commented on the level required to compete effectively and emphasized individual management within games. Tyler Duke shared his unique experience watching his brother Dylan debut in an NHL game against the Red Wings before participating in this collegiate event.

The "Iron D" Trophy is symbolic of Detroit's heritage and features elements representing Hockeytown and its iconic arena. Designed by Erik and Israel Nordin at Detroit Design Center, it stands as a testament to local pride.
