The Detroit Red Wings have assigned right wing Dominik Shine to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Shine, 31, has participated in four games with the Red Wings during the current season, achieving one assist and contributing two shots, eight hits, and two blocks with an average ice time of 8:44. He recorded his first NHL point with an assist against the Calgary Flames on February 1.

Shine joined the Red Wings on a two-year, two-way contract signed on January 27 and made his NHL debut that same night against the Los Angeles Kings. At 31 years and 284 days old, he became the oldest player to debut for the Red Wings since Vaclav Nedomanský in 1977.

This season, Shine has also played in 40 games with the Griffins, ranking among team leaders in several categories including goals (11), assists (21), points (32), penalty minutes (36), power play goals (4), power play points (9), shorthanded goals (1), game-winning goals (3), and shots (89). Last season, he spent all his time with the Griffins, recording 33 points in regular-season games and contributing five points during their Calder Cup Playoff run.

Shine was originally signed by Grand Rapids as an undrafted free agent in March 2017. Since then, he has accumulated 170 points and 513 penalty minutes over 462 AHL games with the Griffins.

Before turning professional, Shine played at Northern Michigan University from 2013-17 where he collected 97 points and served as an alternate captain. He was recognized on multiple All-WCHA teams during his collegiate career. Prior to college, Shine played for the Lincoln Stars in the USHL from 2009-13.

A native of Pinckney, Michigan, Shine grew up playing hockey with Little Caesars Amateur Hockey program in Metro Detroit.
