Following a 3-2 shootout victory against the Edmonton Oilers, the Detroit Red Wings concluded January with a record of 10-3-1 and a four-game winning streak. This achievement marks the first time since January 2012 that the team has won ten games in a calendar month.

The Red Wings accumulated 21 points over their last 13 games, tying with Edmonton for third place behind the Washington Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes, who each earned 22 points.

"I think there's been progress in a lot of areas of our game," said head coach Todd McLellan after practice at Downtown Community Arena. "There's still plenty of room for improvement and introduction of some other concepts. Right now, we're trying to get healthy, rested and ready to play."

Michael Rasmussen expressed optimism about Detroit's future success if they continue playing effectively. "We're shooting the puck a lot more," he noted after scoring his eighth goal of the season. "We're playing better defensively, playing quicker. Penalty kill has been a little bit better... Just keep building with that and sticking with the things that are making us successful."

Friday's practice focused on execution, as McLellan mentioned that coaches highlighted two or three key areas for improvement. "We have the luxury of staying overnight [in Edmonton], so everybody got a pretty good night's rest," he said.

McLellan did not provide any lineup updates post-practice but indicated that decisions would be made before facing the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Saturday night.

"We've got to figure out where everybody is," McLellan stated. "Guys are working hard to get healthy again... but we'll make lineup decisions tomorrow."
