Red Wings sign Dominik Shine for two-year contract; Patrick Kane placed on injured reserve

The Detroit Red Wings have announced the signing of right wing Dominik Shine to a two-year contract covering the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. Shine, who has been playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins, will now report to the Red Wings. The team also disclosed that right wing Patrick Kane has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to January 21.

Shine, aged 31, has participated in 40 games with the Griffins during the current season. He is among the top performers on his team with 11 goals, ranking third; 21 assists, leading the team; and a total of 32 points, also first on the team. Additionally, he has accumulated 36 penalty minutes and scored four power play goals and nine power play points. Shine's performance includes one shorthanded goal and three game-winning goals, alongside tying for first place with 89 shots. In the previous season (2023-24), he recorded 33 points over 65 regular-season games and contributed five points in nine Calder Cup Playoff games.

Originally signed by Grand Rapids as an undrafted free agent in March 2017, Shine has amassed a total of 170 points and accrued 513 penalty minutes across his career in the AHL with the Griffins since starting in the league.

Before turning professional, Shine played at Northern Michigan University from 2013 to 2017 where he gathered a total of 97 points over his collegiate career. He was recognized for his performance by being named to All-WCHA teams during his junior and senior years. Prior to college hockey, Shine played for the Lincoln Stars in the United States Hockey League.

Dominik Shine hails from Pinckney, Michigan and developed his early skills with Little Caesars Amateur Hockey program in Metro Detroit.
