The Detroit Red Wings are set to continue their three-game homestand with a match against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday night. The game will start at 7 p.m. and will be broadcasted on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and the Red Wings Radio Network.
This meeting marks the second time in a week that these two teams face off, following Detroit's 5-1 loss in Tampa Bay last Saturday. Jonatan Berggren expressed determination for the upcoming game, stating, “The last time we played against them, it was a little bit sloppy. That’s not the standard we have for ourselves, so I feel this will be a good game to take a little bit of revenge.”
Detroit recently ended a three-game winless streak by defeating the Montreal Canadiens 4-2 on Thursday. Berggren, who scored the opening goal in that match, noted the importance of their strong start: “We talked a lot about the start, and I felt like the first 10 [minutes] we were really good [against Montreal]. Maybe in the second half of the second [period] we dipped a little bit, but then we were strong and pulled it out by playing solid defensively.”
Berggren has accumulated 13 points from eight goals and five assists over 46 games this season. Reflecting on his performance under coach Todd McLellan, he said, “I feel like my game has grown a little bit when Todd [McLellan] took over.” He added that his confidence is boosted by scoring points and goals without compromising his defensive play.
Detroit faces challenges as Jeff Petry (undisclosed), Tyler Motte (upper body), and Patrick Kane (upper body) will be unavailable for Saturday's game.
Tampa Bay is concluding its four-game road trip after securing an overtime victory against the Chicago Blackhawks with three unanswered goals on Friday. Nikita Kucherov was instrumental in this win with three points including the decisive power-play goal. Goalie Jonas Johansson contributed with 11 saves during this match.
Albert Johansson highlighted Tampa Bay's focus on strong starts: “The last couple of home games, our starts have been really good,” he said. He emphasized maintaining pressure early in games as crucial to their success.
