The Detroit Red Wings are set to conclude their four-game road trip with a match against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night. This will be the third and final meeting between the two teams this season. The Red Wings, holding a record of 21-21-4, will face off against the Flyers, who have a slightly better record of 21-20-6.
Detroit's head coach Todd McLellan emphasized that his focus is not on standings or statistics but rather on continuous improvement. “I know I sound like a broken record, but I’m not in there looking at the standings or the stats,” McLellan stated. “I’m watching video to make sure that the team is trying to get better night after night. That’s the only way we’re going to get wins.”
The Red Wings are aiming for recovery after suffering defeats in their recent back-to-back games, including a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. Despite beating last year's Stanley Cup champions during this trip, they struggled against other formidable opponents.
McLellan acknowledged these challenges and noted efforts made to address them: “We’ve had to fix some things. Do it via video, a little bit on ice and challenge a few players.”
Elmer Soderblom has been called up from Grand Rapids Griffins and is expected to bring fresh energy into Tuesday's game. "Soderblom has earned the right to come up here," McLellan commented.
Ranked sixth in their division, the Flyers have shown strong performance recently with a 4-0-1 streak in their last five games. Travis Konecny leads Philadelphia in scoring this season while rookie Matvei Michkov has impressed with his goal tally.
Flyers' goalie Samuel Ersson holds a goals-against average of 2.79 over 24 games played this season.
Praising Flyers’ head coach John Tortorella, McLellan remarked: “Ton of respect for him, how he carries himself with his team and how he holds people accountable.”
