The Detroit Red Wings have recalled Elmer Söderblom from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Söderblom, 23, has accumulated 17 points in 38 games this season with the Griffins. He also has a plus-four rating and 29 penalty minutes.
Standing at 6-foot-8 and weighing 246 pounds, Söderblom played the entire previous season with the Griffins, achieving career highs in various statistics. During that time, he contributed to their playoff run by registering two points in seven Calder Cup Playoff games.
Söderblom was selected by Detroit in the sixth round of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. In his earlier stint with the Red Wings during the 2022-23 season, he scored eight points across 21 games.
Before his North American career, Söderblom played for Frölunda HC in Sweden's top league. He earned a Champions Hockey League title with them in 2020 and developed through their youth system.
Internationally, Söderblom represented Sweden at several tournaments. Notably, he participated in the IIHF World Junior Championship alongside fellow Red Wings players Lucas Raymond and Albert Johansson. He also won a gold medal at the IIHF World Under-18 Championship and secured a silver medal at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
