The Detroit Lions have announced quarterback Jared Goff as their nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, presented by Nationwide. This prestigious award honors players who demonstrate excellence on the field and make a positive impact off it.
Goff expressed his gratitude for the nomination, stating, "Once again, I am humbled to receive this nomination. My work off the field is deeply connected to my desire and responsibility to give back to my communities. To be a source of inspiration with the influence that I have is something I take seriously."
Goff's contributions extend beyond his performance as a quarterback. Through his JG16 brand, he provides resources to those in need. He first received this nomination in 2022 and has continued his efforts since then.
In education, Goff partners with Detroit's Give Merit FATE program. He collaborates with local students on designs for his clothing line, offering scholarships from sales proceeds and matching each sale dollar-for-dollar. Additionally, surplus funds are donated to the FATE scholarship fund.
Goff also supports educational initiatives through partnerships with the Detroit Lions Foundation and Detroit Lions Academy (DLA). Together they funded a STEAM lab and learning center in 2022.
Addressing food insecurity is another focus for Goff. He partners with Lineage Foundation for Good to donate meals based on his road game touchdowns, contributing 150,000 meals across the U.S. last year.
Previously active in Los Angeles during COVID-19 relief efforts, Goff donated one million meals and masks locally while supporting school supplies through Inglewood Unified School District partnerships.
Each award nominee receives up to $55,000 for their charity of choice; winners receive up to $265,000 from NFL Foundation and Nationwide Foundation donations.
All nominees will be acknowledged before Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The award winner will be announced at NFL Honors on February 6th via FOX and NFL Network broadcasts.
Fans can support nominees through Nationwide's Charity Challenge until January 6th by voting online or using hashtags on social media platforms like X/Twitter.
Nominees will wear special helmet decals recognizing their achievements throughout Week 14 onward this season.
