The Detroit Red Wings are preparing for a significant stretch of games at home, as they will play their next four matches and seven out of the upcoming twelve at Little Caesars Arena. The team is looking to build on the momentum from a successful two-game road trip.
Goalie Cam Talbot emphasized the importance of maintaining their current form. “We just have to continue to play like we’ve been playing,” he stated after a practice session. Talbot highlighted the team's recent success, winning four consecutive games, and stressed the need to make their home arena a challenging venue for opponents.
Throughout the season's first 39 games, 21 were held at Little Caesars Arena, where the Red Wings have secured a 9-10-2 record. They showed improvement by winning two straight home games before their road victories.
Talbot noted the positive impact of fan support in boosting team morale. He recounted how crowd energy was palpable during a game against Washington on December 29, stating that fan engagement could make Little Caesars Arena difficult for visiting teams.
Talbot also discussed managing momentum over an entire season. "You can win four games in a row," he said, cautioning against complacency that might lead to setbacks. He emphasized staying balanced throughout the long season and maintaining focus both on and off the ice.
During Monday's practice, Jeff Petry and Justin Holl were absent due to personal reasons and injury concerns respectively. Head coach Todd McLellan confirmed Petry would miss his second consecutive game while awaiting further evaluation but expected Holl back soon.
