The Detroit Red Wings have assigned goaltender Ville Husso to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League. Husso, aged 29, has played in seven games for the Red Wings this season, recording a 1-4-2 record with a goals-against average of 3.47 and a save percentage of 0.877. In contrast, his performance with the Griffins includes a perfect 4-0-0 record, a goals-against average of 1.58, a save percentage of 0.944, and one shutout in five appearances.

During the previous season, Husso was limited to 19 games with Detroit, achieving a 9-5-2 record with a goals-against average of 3.55 and a save percentage of 0.892. He also had an impressive outing during a conditioning stint with the Griffins on January 26 against the Belleville Senators, stopping all 25 shots he faced.

Husso was originally drafted by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round (94th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Since beginning his NHL career in the 2020-21 season, he has compiled a record of 70-44-18 with a goals-against average of 3.03 and a save percentage of 0.901 across appearances for both the Blues and Red Wings.

In addition to his NHL experience, Husso has played extensively in the AHL for teams including Chicago Wolves and San Antonio Rampage before joining Grand Rapids Griffins. His AHL career stats include a record of 55-54-16 with a goals-against average of 2.64 and a save percentage of 0.910 over 135 games.

Before moving to North America, Husso spent three seasons playing for HIFK in Finland's SM-Liiga from 2013 to 2016 where he earned accolades such as being named to the SM-Liiga All-Star Team and winning the Urpo Ylönen Award as top goaltender during his final season there.

Internationally, Husso represented Finland at various tournaments including winning gold at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2014 and participating in other championships like IIHF World Championship in 2018.
