The Detroit Red Wings secured a 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers at Little Caesars Arena on Wednesday night. This win marks their second consecutive triumph on home ice, avenging a previous loss to the Flyers.
Patrick Kane played a pivotal role, scoring the go-ahead goal and assisting another, marking his fourth multi-point game of the season. "We had some things in mind going into these games before the [holiday] break," Kane stated. "Playing here at home, I think there's been some good energy from the crowd."
Goaltender Alex Lyon returned from injured reserve to make 15 saves for the Red Wings, who have now won three of their last four games. Meanwhile, Samuel Ersson stopped 18 shots for Philadelphia.
Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde expressed satisfaction with the team's performance despite some challenges during the game. "We'll take that game any night," he said.
The Flyers took an early lead with Travis Konecny's goal just over a minute into play. However, Detroit responded with J.T. Compher redirecting Dylan Larkin's shot to tie it up by the end of the first period.
Lucas Raymond assisted Compher’s goal and extended his home point streak to eight games. Simon Edvinsson left early due to an upper-body injury without a postgame update on his condition.
Alex DeBrincat scored on his birthday off Kane's pass in the second period, but Philadelphia quickly equalized through Tyson Foerster and Noah Cates. Michael Rasmussen and Joe Veleno then scored consecutively to give Detroit a two-goal advantage heading into intermission.
Philadelphia leveled again in the third period with goals from Ryan Poehling and Owen Tippett before Kane restored Detroit's lead. An empty-netter from Raymond sealed the win for Detroit.
Lalonde highlighted Kane's contribution: "We need offense from Patty." He also praised Compher’s all-around play: "Of course we want the offense, but we just need him playing winning hockey."
Kane commented on recent performances alongside teammates: "It's nice to produce... we've had a couple good games here in a row."
Detroit will next face Montreal Canadiens at home as part of a back-to-back series starting Friday night.
